Prom: What to Bring?

Alright, so it's that time of the year again: prom season. Everyone's in a frenzy for last minute dress alterations, hair and make up appointments. But a lot of the time, we tend to overlook the smallest details. Such as what we actually need to stuff into our cute - but micro sized - clutches on the night of. Here's my personal take on the bare minimal you'll need to survive the night:

Phone Case - Marc Jacobs

Lip Gloss - Sephora

Eyeshadow - Sephora

Clutch - Aldo

1) Cell phone/camera. This has to be the most important thing on everyone's list. You want to capture all the great memories between you and your friends. After all, what's the point of getting all dressed up if you're not going to take any pictures? Plus, the front camera doubles as a compact for any emergency touchups. My phone case also acts as a cardholder so you can keep your id with you, just in case.

2) Oil blotting sheets. So this applies to people like me, who struggle with keeping a matte face throughout the night. Especially in hot and humid weather like we're experiencing right now. These are a super quick touchup and a lifesaver before photos. They're a more efficient option than powder and can't make you look cakey.

3) Eyelash Glue. If you're wearing fake eyelashes, you must Must MUST bring eyelash glue. I know most of the time they stay on fine. But it's much better to be safe than sorry. It would be a disaster to have your fake lashes falling off in the middle of the night, or worse, in the middle of photos. All i'm saying is, it might be useful in urgent situations, so keep it at hand.

4) Eyeshadow highlight. This is solely for touchup purposes and depends on your makeup. For me, I prefer a bright inner corner and brow bone highlight. So I'm bringing my eyeshadow to reapply because lighter colours tend to wear off faster. I just think having a good highlight colour really compliments facial structure in photos.

5) Hand cream. Again, this is a MUST. You're bound to go to the bathroom throughout the evening and washing your hands will quickly dry out your skin. Just pop a small tube of hand cream into your clutch and your hands will thank you. Having dry skin is the worst feeling and will distract you from your amazing night.

6) Lip gloss. This one is optional as well as the eyeshadow. It really depends on how you're doing your makeup. If a pigmented lip pulls your look together, then definitely bring it. The reason I went for a gloss and not a lipstick is because this colour is so intense, it functions as a stain. I'm a big fan of bold lips, so this is well needed for my clutch.

7) Money. Lastly, this is strictly for emergencies. You just never know what will happen, so it's always good to have some cash on hand. Slip a $20 into the small pocket of your clutch just for good measure.

So that's about it for my take on prom clutch essentials. There are no set rules on what you will/won't need on your night. So just take everything into consideration and go with what works for you. Most importantly, have fun, party hard and have a safe prom!

Cheers,
J
